The Dryden Experiment is a community of creatives from various disciplines and geographical locations, sharing in the endeavour of bringing a whole fictional multiverse to life - working on projects from conception, through development and creation and into cross-promotion and support, on the understanding that we are each more successful by the sum of our parts than as struggling, solitary artists. We encourage the notion of self-empowerment, and maintain the belief in a "third way"; that it shouldn't be necessary for anyone to have to choose between struggling alone or passing through the gates of larger publishing houses only to have their art be subjected to the complex, restrictive and often dismissive practices so demonstrated. How many great works may have sat unrecognised or rejected in slush piles simply because it was deemed unfashionable, too unusual, or worse simply rejected on a whim? The Dryden Experiment came into being as a reaction to the wall encountered by so many, including Joel Stottlemire - the author who conceived the experiment.
We work under the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 licence
(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/)
This enables a framework for participants to share in the creative resources already present, to further the realisation of their own works unencumbered by the excesses of copyright, on the understanding that:
- they give credit to the original author of the work (where it's impossible to source the creator then that credit should be attributed to the Dryden collective).
- make their own material available to others under the same licence conditions.
We believe it's working out pretty well thus far, with a number of books already published and available through the established online outlets as well as more exciting projects in the pipeline.
